The rain just never seems to end. Thank goodness the temperatures have kept it warm. If this was snow instead of rain, we would be snowed in and much more miserable. Besides being depressing, all this rain is turning my yard into a big mud pit.
When I stepped off the steps of my front porch, there is a constant puddle of water about as big around as the size of my kitchen table top. It is too big to step over, and if I try to jump I will just slip in the mud on the far side of the puddle and fall. So I have to walk through the puddle and be extra careful all the way to the driveway that I do not slip.
I don’t know what to do about the puddle – it will go away when the rains stops. But in the meantime, I need to wear galoshes or boots instead of my regular shoes, just to get out of the door and across the muddy lawn to my car.

Before heading out to the grocery store, I made a quick check of the refrigerator, the freezer and the kitchen cabinets. I have almost no fruits or vegetables in the house.
That’s really strange – I guess my eating habits this winter have been based on fattening and unhealthy comfort foods. I need to nip that in the bud and buy more fruits and vegetables. After all, I can’t cook the healthy foods up for dinner if they aren’t here in the cabinets.
The best way to change your diet to a healthy one is to change your shopping habits at the grocery store.

At the post office I joined a long line that included my good friend, Raymond. It was nice to see him and chat a bit about our holidays. The other people in line were sullen and bored, but I thought that chatting with a friend made the time pass quickly and before we knew it we had finished our post office business and were out in the parking lot, heading for our cars.

That is the first thing I ask people when I see them on the day after Christmas. I ask all the store clerks, the drive up window people, and co-workers the same question. These next couple of days are fun when you get to hear what everyone else did for Christmas, who got the presents they were hoping for, and all the weirdness that comes out at family gatherings.

Tonight I’ve been baking. All the presents are wrapped and everything is done for Christmas except there are no cookies for Santa. At my house we ALWAYS leave a plate of fresh baked cookies and a glass of cold milk for Santa – that is one tradition that we will always keep.
So, I made a batch of Toll House chocolate chip cookies, with a special addition of chopped candied cherries to the mix for a festival touch. The candied cherries come in little plastic tubs and you can get either bright red or bright green. I like to buy both, since Christmas colors are both red and green.
The candied cherries added to the cookie dough are my own special recipe and they add a bright touch of color and an extra little chewiness to the cookies. They are a special treat that everyone asks of me whenever we have a family gathering or a potluck supper or a holiday party.
As soon as this last batch is finished in the oven, I can hit the sack and get some sleep.
Merry Christmas, everyone!
